Johnston Sweepers has been awarded ISO 50001 Energy Management accreditation by the British Standard Institute, making us the first company in our sector to hold the prized kite mark.
The certification award is the culmination of a year’s intensive work during which our energy use was closely measured and monitored, and action plans were developed to reduce our costs. The BSI then recently assessed our new systems, processes and resulting cost savings, and awarded us the standard.
Johnston took the decision to apply for ISO 50001 certification following introduction of the new ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) regulations that requires all qualifying organisations in the UK to comply with energy management measures. Johnston elected to take the process several steps forward and apply for the far more rigorous ISO 50001 standard, far exceeding the basic ESOS requirements.
Only 500 in the UK companies have so far submitted even their ESOS action plans, so Johnston is once again well ahead of environmental legislation – a significant factor in us winning our latest Scottish Excel and Green Apple awards.
