The CANview system, displays on a screen giving information on sweeper functions - from engine speed and temperature to hours and miles swept and also a diagnostic fault finding capability.

The C400 features a palm-rest control panel, which allows operators to control the sweeping functions of the machine from a single large buttoned keypad, which is easy to operate - even in gloves.

The hopper body incorporates noise suppression ducts to minimise noise without compromising performance.

Performance & Productivity

Available in a range of transit speeds up to 80kmh. The C400 Range is designed and built to the exacting standards required by demanding municipal environments. With heavy duty suction power, a class leading 2400kg payload and vehicle width of only 1650mm on a short wheelbase, the C400 provides capacity and agility without compromise.

At ease in heavy duty cleansing environments and crowded streets, the C400 easily cleans the urban/ inner city environment. The front facing brushes can reach hard to reach areas and the fingertip control with unrivalled visibility of the brushes and the nozzle makes the sweeping manoeuvrability comparable to the compact sweeper.

With the 4.2m³ hopper and an optional water hydrant feature of the C400 achieves increased on-station working and reduces "tip runs", giving an immediate extension to productivity and a simultaneous reduction in running costs.

The sweepgear configuration of two 1000mm front facing brushes is ideal for efficient cleaning of blind alleys, 90° corners and around parked cars. Or, choose the optional third brush system for a dual sweeping function of sweeping road and pavement simultaneously, or our speciality weed rip brush technology. Add lightweight design and an acute steering lock and you have superb handling and manoeuvrability to negotiate tight spaces.

An additional advantage of the C400 is the large footprint making the C400 ideal for cleaning expensive paving surfaces. With sweeping speeds up to 16km/h, combined with transit speeds up to 80km/h and a wide 3300mm brush reach, the C400 can achieve the same linear mileage and the work of two smaller sweepers for lower operational costs.

Lowest Carbon Footprint:

On average the C400 uses 3.9 litres per hour less fuel per hour in Work Mode compared with 7.5 Ton chassis mounted sweepers, which means (based on 40 hours per week), the C400 could reduce CO² emissions by 21 tons per vehicle per year.

Optional benefits:

Cost of ownership:

The initial capital cost of a sweeper is only part of the calculation for cost of ownership, and Johnston Sweepers takes account of a range of issues that will increase the benefit of using a Johnston C400 sweeper.

Built at our Sittingbourne factory, the C400 offers lower maintenance costs when compared to a chassis mounted vehicle. With 500 hour service intervals on the whole vehicle, service costs and downtime are kept to a minimum.

Designed to cope with tough environments the C400 hopper is manufactured from 4003 stainless steel for protection against corrosion and wear.

Major components are shot blasted with an aluminium oxide abrasive providing an excellent key for the painting process. An acid etch primer is applied followed by two coats of 2 pack epoxy paint, stoved off to give a hard wearing coating. In addition grey parts are shot blasted, primed and powder coated for a tough finish, ensuring the sweeper bodywork maintains its durability and longer in-service life.

The C400 is designed and built for urban and city sweeping and the engine and drive train is also matched to this purpose, resulting in greater fuel efficiency.

In comparative tests, results show that:

The C400 uses an average of 3.9 litres less fuel in Work-Mode than other sweepers of similar size which are mounted on truck chassis.

Dust suppression and air quality:

Fine spray jets supress dust on the floor before the brushes direct the dirt and debris into the suction box. Two water jets are sprayed into the path of the dirt and dust which ensures virtually all the dirt and debris is soaked before entering the hopper. Once the soaked debris reaches the hopper void, the water containing the dirt and debris falls to the floor trapping all the dust particles in the hopper body. This dust system meets the EUnited PM10 standard for dust control.
