Johnston Sweepers has been awarded BS OHSAS 18001 accreditation, the international standard for occupational health and safety systems, by the British Standards Institute.

The accreditation puts Johnston in the distinctive position within the manufacturing sector of now having the full hat-trick of internationally recognised standards, having already gained ISO 9001 for quality systems and ISO 14001 for environmental management.

The prestigious award comes after an in-depth assessment by BSI Inspectors in which they examined every aspect of Johnston’s occupational health and safety management systems, before announcing that they would be recommending the award.

The standard specifies the requirements to enable an organisation to control its health and safety risks and improve its performance.  With a large element of the standard covering the legislative aspects of health and safety systems, the accreditation process took a full year for the Johnston team, despite the exemplary health and safety systems already in place.
