Apprenticeship scheme with Johnston

Posted: January 11, 2017

Semta, the Science, Engineering, Manufacturing and Technologies Alliance, has featured Johnston Sweepers in a case study looking at the role of women in engineering.

Semta is a non-profit organisation led by employers, dedicated to developing engineering and manufacturing skills in the UK, enabling British industries to compete on a global scale.  Johnston Sweepers works with the alliance in recruiting new apprentices and supporting them through their training programme.

The case study focussed on Rebecca Houghton (left) who has joined the company on a four year Apprenticeship in Welding and Fabrication, and Nicole Fisher (right) who is due to complete her apprenticeship in Logistics and Purchasing in 2018.  Both are great role models for women in engineering, encouraging other young women to consider the benefits of training for a career in the industry - including the wide variety of engineering disciplines, studying for a recognised qualification, gaining knowledge and confidence - and, of course, getting paid while you train!
